As you get ready to host a Halloween party or open your door to trick or treaters, here are some ideas for protecting your fur babies from harm.
Keep Pets Inside: With the added commotion of strangers at your door, keep your pets indoors in a safe, enclosed area. Even the friendliest pet can become anxious during the celebrations.
Accurate ID and Microchip: Be sure your pet is wearing proper identification. In the event they do manage to make an escape, an accurate collar tag and microchip is a lifesaver.
Use Care with Pet Costumes: While putting your pet in a costume can be fun, be sure costumes are comfortable, don't hinder their vision, and don't have any parts they might chew on or swallow.
No Candy for Pets: Chocolate, xylitol, and other common Halloween snacks are toxic to pets. Keep all candy out of their reach and be watchful for dropped candies.
Use Safe Decorations: Jack O’ Lanterns with candles, fake cobwebs, and other decorations can be tempting but dangerous for pets. Watch your pets to make sure they don't chew or ingest anything they shouldn't.
Be Cautious with Glow Sticks and Costume Jewelry: While glow sticks and jewelry are fun costume accessories, the chemicals may be harmful if pets chew on or swallow them.
Provide a Safe Haven: If your pet typically gets anxious when the doorbell rings, create a quiet space for them to go or await trick or treaters outside to avoid using the doorbell.
Know Your Pet: Some pets love to mingle and may enjoy being part of your Halloween festivities while others are better off left to themselves. Always take into consideration your pet's personality and well-being.

It’s a spooktacular month here at OnHold.com – and we wanted to share a little Halloween trivia! Did you know that the most popular Halloween costume in the United States is – no, not a zombie – it’s a witch! Our popular image of a witch with flowing robes, a pointed hat and a hooked nose actually comes right from the movies. You guessed it – it’s inspired by the famous Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. You may be surprised to learn that the custom of celebrating Halloween didn’t originate in America, or even in Transylvania – it came from Ireland. If you want to entertain your Halloween guests with Rotten Tomatoes’ top choice for Scariest Horror Movies Ever, get your hands on the original Linda Blair version of The Exorcist. Ready for trick or treat? If you’ve ever had a craving for french fries covered in chocolate and pumpkin flavoring, you could have enjoyed them at McDonald’s for Halloween in 2016 – but only if you were willing to fly to Japan, the only country participating in that promotion. If you’re fond of handing out candy corn, you might like to know that the original name for this Halloween favorite was chicken feed. At OnHold.com, we have some great Halloween music to change your standard on hold program to one that captures the mood of the season for your callers. Have some scary fun with Halloween and OnHold.com!
